![]() Older generations were happier to focus the journey and the reward at the end, instead of just seeking the instant rewards. In fact, this has been found to be a big generational difference. This means we need to focus more on the process that we undergo we need to seek gratification in developing skills and the journey to the summit of the mountain. What we, as a generation, need to focus on is ‘delayed’ or ‘deferred gratification’. Many of us will fail to ask for help or develop our skill sets, and thus, we will fall off that mountain. Sinek gives a great analogy, explaining how as millennials we would stand at the bottom of a mountain and we would want to get to the top straight away, without the discomfort or struggle of the climb up to the summit. This pursuit for instant gratification is having a huge impact on us as working adults. In our current society we get everything instantaneously… except for job satisfaction. You want something, you get it straight away. Match this lack of coping mechanism of stress with our low self-esteem and the effects are quite disastrous. It releases dopamine and makes us feel good, so we’ve used this to gain approval and avoid stress. We are addicted because, as Sinek explains, technology and social media has become our coping mechanism. Some of us even wish people on Instagram a good morning before we wish our partner a good morning. We check our phones at the dinner table when sat with our families. ![]() Not only this, but social media is an addiction. We are obsessed with how everyone else is doing, how perfect their life looks and how they seem to have everything figured out. There is an abundance of evidence to suggest that social media is detrimental to our sleep quality, can cause anxiety and depression and can lower our self-esteem. The second thing Sinek is quick to blame is technology, specifically, social media. Often, once we enter the world of work, we quickly develop a low self-esteem and opinion of ourselves when we realize our mothers can’t help us anymore. This ‘cotton wrapped’ and ‘sheltered’ upbringing leads to our entire self-image and everything we believe about ourselves to be shattered when we enter the real world. ![]() You most certainly do not get a prize just for taking part in business and loser are not awarded or applauded. We are not special especially in comparison to our co-workers with years of experience or far more appealing degrees. However, when we are then thrown into the real working world, we all receive a big shock. We even received medals in school for taking part, not the winning! Most of us were raised to believe we could have anything in life… that we are special. Sinek firstly blames our parents for our egotistic and entitled views of ourselves. Simon Sinek, a motivational speaker and author of many best-selling books (including “ Start With Why“), has the perfect answer as to why we’re all so confused when it comes to the wonderful world of work. And yes, we have our slides in the center of our offices. The expensive and exuberant cocktails are in abundance on Friday nights. Well, the almond milk triple shot Latte’s with a dash of sugar free caramel syrup are flowing. We demand free coffees at work, Friday night drinks and even slides in our offices. We want to make a huge impact on the world yet, in all honestly, we have nothing to offer. Sailing through our school life in a bubble, we turn up at the door of businesses demanding to work with purpose. We, us millennials (the generation of humans born approximately in 1994 or above) are accused (and, perhaps rightfully so) of being entitled, narcissistic and self-interested. It doesn’t take a genius to notice that there is a pretty big difference between our work ethic and the work ethic of our parents or grandparents. Unless (we) make some changes to our mindset. ![]() In this blog post, I’ll talk about the work of Simon Sinek and how he believes millennial’s are destined for disappointment due to our parenting, addiction to technology, instant gratification and the environment. ![]()

The reason is that your PC might have some nefarious program installed which adds back those removed extensions. ![]() There are times when you have removed all the suspicious extensions, but you still see annoying Chrome ads out of nowhere. I put my party on the waitlist for both evenings of our trip, AmEx was kind and offered other options in the area and assisted in booking Restaurant at Auberge, which turned out to be fantastic. Reservations open on the 1st of each month for the following month, still at 10AM PST. Finally, the updated booking release is back to normal as well. In checking Tock now and given Napa’s reopening, it looks like things are in full swing and back to normal, but they still have courtyard seating as an option to book. Further, at the time there was only outdoor dining or parties of 2-6 could book $800/person dining inside one of the few classic dining rooms they had. ![]() Supplements (ie: wagyu), and alcoholic beverages not included and can be settled at the end of the meal. NOTES: you pre-pay for the entire meal, taxes and tips included, you cannot cancel but you can sell or “transfer” your reservation to another tock account and the transactions are all done through Tock’s secure internal platform. Both myself and AmEx had to log on to Tock to try our luck when reservations opened on the 15th for the following month at 10AM PST, seats were gone in seconds and a party of 3 is very hard to reserve, try going with 4, seemed to be the easiest and most widely available even after 10AM. Well, I also failed this time, and American Express Platinum Concierge also failed (at the time in March for April reservations they did not have dedicated AmEx seats given limited capacity). I was admittedly quite buzzed/ drunk by the end of the meal from the delicious wines poured at dinner but also, folks, Napa wine tastings on a sunny hot day can catch up to you real fast and out of nowhere, stay hydrated and sober up before your once in a lifetime dinners. Is it worth it? I definitely think the base menu with a few supplements here and there is worth it. The food, mostly was fantastic, a few small misses, but over all delicious and all 3 of us agreed, the lamb was simply one of the best we had had and my aunt and uncle both normally dont eat lamb. The service is expectedly top-notch, the wine selection is incredible, the ambiance even during COVID and outdoor balcony dining was fantastic. Unless its for some super special event or menu, such as their seasonal Black Truffle and Caviar dinner. I dont think I’d necessarily go out of my way to come again, especially because of the stress in getting a reservation and the logistics of actually getting here. Did I think its 3-Michelin Star worth? No, everything was as expected and solid but nothing overly wowed me. So was it worth the experience? I would say, it lives up to its reputation and hype and worth checking out at least once. At first it seemingly was to be the same fate, but the internet helped change that. Further, every time I have ventured to the area and/or have had time in the Bay Area I have tried and failed at getting reservations at The French Laundry, Chef Thomas Keller’s ubiquitous Yountville restaurant. Not my first time, but that last time I was in Wine Country was circa 2014 or so, so it had been a while and actually in my prior visits I had not done Napa proper, mainly stuck to the Sonoma side. In April, I went out to the Bay Area to visit some family and friends, during this trip we had a 2 night getaway in Napa Valley. And now I have had some extra time to catch up on a few posts I had been meaning to do. Have not been traveling as much though that has slowly been changing. ![]() ![]() ![]() It should be noted that these sizes may change over time, so it would be wise to check the developer guidelines page just to be sure. Icon Sizesīecause your app icon is going to be used in various different contexts - including the home screen, the app store, in notifications, and so on - you’re going to need numerous different sizes. Apple will apply the mask to give your icon rounded corners once you’ve uploaded your artwork. It is required that your icon be submitted with squared corners. This means that when you are designing your app icon in Adobe Illustrator, you do not need to add rounded corners to your design. A mask will be applied on the OS end to give the icon rounded corners. App icons are to be designed with squared corners. This is because Apple applies a mask to each icon that gives it a rounded corner. All app icons in the iOS operating system have rounded corners. One thing you may have noticed about app icons on the iOS platform is that they all have similarly rounded corners. Make sure to check the developer guidelines for the complete list! This is just a summary of some of the more important guidelines to abide by. Apple advises against using imagery with lots of details that are difficult to make out at small sizes, as well as interface icons that can be misleading. I think using the methods Illustrator provides for “exporting” is the way to go, and then saving original artwork in the native Illustrator format.Apple has outlined a series of design guidelines for designing app icons for their operating system. You also need to be careful to get the settings right, for example, leaving “Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities” off, otherwise you’ll get TONS MORE cruft, like That stuff will get stripped out if you’re using optimizing software like SVGO, but that’s not a part of everyone’s SVG workflow all the time. I just always avoid saving SVG in that way as that’s the way you get all the cruft. That’s what we were aiming for, so I’m glad there is a way!Īh yes! True. The viewBox will then reflect the artboard and the space we have left around the art. You can do that from the Export for Screens dialog. The trick in preserving the space is to export the artboard itself. The Asset Export panel is mighty handy, but you the export crops to the art and there is no way to change that. It’s fairly optimized, cruft-free, and pretty much ready to use on the web.īut… it crops to the art with no option to change that, so we’ll lose the space around that we’re shooting for here.Ī possible work around here is putting a rectangle behind the art with the spacing around it we need, but then we get a rectangle in the output, which shouldn’t be necessary. The “Export As” feature supports SVG, and you’ll likely be pretty pleased with the output. They are already calling this a “legacy” feature, so I imagine it’ll be gone soon. THE CLAW! You’ll see space around here, but unfortunately the classic Save for Web dialog doesn’t export as SVG at all, so that’s not really an option.
